Bed bugs are flat, reddish-brown colored, with flat, oval-shaped bodies. They cannot fly, but can move quickly over floors, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces. Females lay 5 eggs a day, and 500 in a lifetime.
Bed bugs prefer to hide close by where they feed, and will crawl several feet to obtain a blood meal. They can hide in the mattress, box springs, headboards, floor baseboards, chairs, sofas, nightstands, picture frames, switch plates, and more. Initial infestations tend to be around beds, but can become scattered throughout the room, and spread to adjacent rooms.
